Dr. John Louis-Ugbo
I am a practicing orthopedic surgeon with nearly 30 years of training and experience as a medical physician and researcher. I completed my initial medical training in Nigeria, after which I trained at numerous hospitals around the world (Nigeria, India, Malaysia, USA). For several years, I served as an instructor at the Emory University School of Medicine, performing research related to osteogenic biomaterials, spinal fusion, growth factor and viral delivery for improved fusion, and biomechanics of various surgical procedures. These experiences, and research since, have led to greater than 25 peer-reviewed publications, 12 book chapters, and dozens of conference proceedings. Since 2010, I have served as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics in the Emory School of Medicine, and the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. I also presently serve as Residency Site Coordinator between Emory and the Atlanta VA. Through this clinical experience, I have gained broad exposure to various musculoskeletal injuries, diseases, and treatments in the Veteran population, especially those that relate geriatric orthopedic surgery and foot and ankle surgery. I also have sufficient experience mentoring residents and medical students at the Atlanta VA, Emory, and Morehouse schools of medicine.
