Dr. Sikiru Adekola Adebayo

Dr. Sikiru Adekola ADEBAYO graduated MBBS (Ibadan) in June 1991, and obtained the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in Urology in April 2002. 

He was among the first set of beneficiaries of the current model of Societe Internationale D’Urologie (SIU) Scholarships on which he had 6 months of Clinical Fellowship in Endourology at Al-Azhar Urology Department, El-Hussein Hospital, Cairo Egypt, between September 2003 and March 2004. He subsequently spent some time at the Service D’Urologie, Cliniques Universitaires De Bruxelles, Hopital Erasme, Belgium, in the spring of 2006. He undertook the October, 2014 certificate course in urodynamic at the Bristol Urological Institute, UK. He won the Mansard Travel Fellowship in 2014.

He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Consultant Urological Surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan Nigeria. He had previously worked as Consultant Surgeon, Ring Road State Hospital Ibadan, Consultant Urologist OOUTH Sagamu, Ogun State, Visiting Consultant Urologist, FMC Abeokuta Ogun State, and also as Consultant Urologist & later Chief of Urology, King Khaled Hospital Najran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

His current research focus is on voiding dysfunction from benign and malignant prostatic obstruction, and lower urinary tract urodynamic. He has over 40 peer reviewed journal publications and a book chapter to his credit. He is also a co-holder of a patent- (UI-UCH Ibadan Bladder Manikin). He is a reviewer for the African Journal of Urology, and the Nigerian Journal of Surgery.

He is an Instructor at the Basic Surgical Skills, as well as Trauma Courses for Resident Doctors at the University College Hospital Ibadan.  He is an examiner both at the part 1 and the part 2 final Fellowship examinations of the West African College of Surgeons. Dr Adebayo has vast experience in open and endourological surgeries. He has been involved in several medical missions and outreaches to different parts of South Western Nigeria, many of which he served as the team leader since 2003. He is also involved in public enlightenment programs and health education on screening and early detection of prostate cancer, involving discussions on electronic media, newspaper interviews and regular focused group discussions in religious houses and social clubs. 

Dr Adebayo is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (ICS). He is an active member of the Nigerian Association of Urological Surgeons (NAUS), Transplant Association of Nigeria (TAN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental consultant Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and Societe Internationale d’Urologie (SIU). He is the current Treasurer of the Pan African Urological Surgeons association (PAUSA).
